Last years ASA Late Models Southern Division event at Cordele was very memorable for Chiefland, Florida native Wes Burton. Burton qualified a very respectable 6th of the 24 cars on-hand. Burton then started on the pole after fast qualifier Matt Hawkins drew a 6 for the invert.
As the field rolled into turn 3 preparing to take the green, the pace car stopped in the middle of the track bunching up the field. The incident left several cars crippled and sent a couple into the pits for the night. Wes narrowly escaped the mishap and continued unharmed.
