Jennerstown Speedway, in conjunction with Lennox Home Comfort Systems, will highlight their premier division with the first of two extended lap events for the 2007 season.
This Saturday, June 16th, the “Lennox Super Late Model 100” supported by the Somerset Trust Company Street Stocks, Budweiser Hobby Stocks and Mini-Cups will rumble through the half-mile paved Laurel Highlands speed plant.
The Super Late Model point standings have Jenners, PA Barry Awtey in the #75 Wheeler Brothers Super Late, leading a tight points race where the top 5 are separated by only 20 points. Each Super Late Model feature has produced a new winner with close quarter car length wins. Not only will there be extended laps added to the feature but the purse will be increased by two and a half times the normal payout giving the winner $2,250 in take home pay. Track operations manager Joe Dirienzo reported “because of the higher pay scale, we have received numerous calls from new drivers both in and out of the local area that are planning on coming out this Saturday to compete for the prize money. We are anticipation a full car count to add to our already great racing program”. Learn more…
The Somerset Trust Company Street Stocks will follow up the Super Late Models with a 20-lap feature event where Adam Kostelnik is defending his 2006 season championship. Coming off of his first win of the 2007 season last Saturday night, Adam in the #05 street stock has only a ten point lead over Scott Bowman who had won in Jennerstown’s season opener on May 26th. Again, as with the Super Late Models, the Street Stock feature events have yielded a new winner each week keeping the points race tight.
In the Budweiser Hobby Stock division, Steve Long is looking to continue his winning streak in the 15-lap feature. Steve has captured wins in all three of the Hobby Stock feature events however, this coming week will push Steve to maximize his handling with the 75 additional pounds of weight added to the #27. The 2007 Hobby Stock rules state that for each feature win, 25 pounds of weight must be added to the car. The combined added weight and Eugene Zerefoss, in the #23, trailing only 6 points, raises the challenge set for Steve this Saturday night. Perhaps, this will be the opportunity that Eugene Zerefoss has been waiting for.
