C&W Frozen Vegetables Day at the races featuring the season opener for America s Fastest Weekly race track was a warm – dry day of racing. Warm and Dry being two things not seen around I-70 s high banks this spring.
The Late Models – always the pride of I-70 Speedway – with more history than possible to recall at the high banks led off the season with a 50-lap event. Jenny White of Topeka took the lead at the green flag and became the third female victor of the night as she at times ran away from the field. Thor Anderson from Iowa – a 14-year-old ASA competitor started near the rear and worked his way thru traffic making up nearly ½ lap and moved to fourth spot on lap 27 passing another young gun Billy Crane for the position. On lap 37 Anderson and David Glass tangled spinning both down the rear backstretch. On the final 10 laps – second spot runner Austin Siebert who ran runner-up the entire event put the pressure to White s bumper. Lap 42 saw Anderson spin down the front stretch and end his awesome run giving Siebert a last shot to overtake White. It was not to be as White took another checkered at the high banks. Siebert was second, Crane third, Elton Rust Jr was fourth and David Glass was fifth. White was the fast qualifier with Siebert on the outside.
