Young Kingston racer Tyler Millwood has scored another top ten finish to add to his racing record, this one at Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C.
Millwood qualified seventeenth at Friendship: “I didn’t want to push it as hard as I could have, ” he said, preferring to make sure he made the race. In the race, a car spun right in front of him, leaving the teen driver “about six inches of leeway getting between him and the wall, ” according to Millwood.
Taking the No. 31 Millwood Plumbing family Allison Legacy racer to events across the Southeast, Millwood has been racing on local kart tracks as well, for fun. He currently is in twelfth position in points, within striking position of tenth.
Besides the kart races, he recently entered a Limited Late Model in a couple of dirt track races at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga., finishing sixth out of a dozen starters in his first-ever big car race, then went on to a mid-pack eighth finish in his second outing in the 600-horsepower cars.
Millwood’s future race plans include races at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the Summer Shootout for Legends cars, as he carries markings supporting D. A.R. E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) on his Legacy car and on his Legends car for the rest of the season. He plans on entering a Pro Challenge car this weekend at Peach State Raceway.
Millwood is being helped in his career by Future Stars in Racing Academy: learning public speaking; sponsor presentations; working with the media and behavior on and off the track.
