CAMS Cams Remains Committed To Club Level Motor Sport

CAMS has today reaffirmed its support and commitment to the development of club level motor sport, including rallying, following recent misleading public comments from a number of sources.
According to CAMS’ Chief Executive Officer, Graham Fountain, “This innuendo that CAMS has no interest in club level motor sport appears to be designed to bring into question CAMS’ position on club level motor sport, and rallying in particular at this level, and I find these types of statements to be politically motivated and totally unfounded. “
“This is completely contrary to the outcomes of the recent Corporate Planning Workshop, the strategic direction of the organisation and renewed focus on proactively engaging in sports/club development across CAMS. “
“CAMS remains firmly committed to supporting and improving club level motor sport for all disciplines in Australia and to this end, the CAMS Board have ensured that the selection criteria for the incoming Chairmen of the Australian Rally and Historic Commissions explicitly identifies that a focus on club level sport is a priority. “
Acting Australian Rally Commission Chairman, Colin Trinder, echoed these comments confirming that there will be a continued focus on the issues facing club level rallying.
“A significant amount of work has been done consulting the rallying community to identify the range of issues impacting on rallying at club level with a view to making participation as straightforward as possible. We look forward to continue working with the State Rally Panels, competitors, officials and clubs to identify and remove those things seen as unnecessary impediments to improve and grow the sport for everyone. “
Some competitors may also not be aware that many current members of the CAMS Board either still compete or have a background in club and state level rallying, and they too are keenly interested in ensuring this discipline of the sport prospers.
Mr Fountain concluded that “Throughout the history of CAMS, club level activity, including rallying at all levels, has been a key part of the activity it has supported and there is simply no view that the future would be any different. “
“Club level competitors across all disciplines should be reassured that CAMS remains totally behind them, complete with a renewed emphasis within our new Corporate Plan and organisational structure, and we look forward to working proactively in this regard in conjunction with clubs, state panels and other stakeholders. “
