The British crew of Barry Clark and Scott Martin have just confirmed they will compete in nine rounds of the World Rally Championship in 2007, starting with next week’s inaugural Rally Norway.
The program will include all seven rounds of the Fiesta SportingTrophy International series, as well as the Tour de Corse, Rally Ireland and the recce for the Acropolis Rally. They will also tackle Rally Poland for some fast gravel experience on this WRC candidate event.
Last year, Clark was crowned the inaugural J-WRC rookie champion after a jam-packed season, which saw him contest four different rally championships. With a steady head, he dominated the Fiesta SportingTrophy International, taking overall wins in Finland and GB in his Fiesta ST.
This was backed-up with class wins in the British Rally Championship for the successful Stobart Motorsport team, driving a Fiesta S1600.
The 24-year-old from Aberdeen is looking forward to the 2007 season and knows this is a massive chance for him to experience the stages and conditions of the World Rally Championship. He has shown his speed and ability in the FST International series before and is aiming to improve on his collection of fastest stage times and category victories.
Clark’s adaptability is well-proven, winning the British Rally Championship Production Cup in 2005, and he will look to use his experience as he aims to go one better this year and win the FST International championship.
Competing on snow for the first time will be a challenge for the young driver but with the majority of Fiesta entrants in the same boat, it will be level pegging as he attacks the tricky Norwegian roads for the first time next week.
Barry Clark said:
“This year we will really be going for it. We showed our pace in the FST championship last year and we are definitely in with a shout of taking the overall series honours. It’s a long championship with long events so it’s not the kind of situation where we will be pushing very hard right from the start, rallying is about driving with your head, and I hope to be doing this as much as possible. I’m pleased to be doing so many events, it’s a good program for me and I will be trying to get as many miles, stages and experience under my belt as possible. â€
