Formula One driver Robert Kubica has said he “must learn to listen” after crashing out of the Sicilian Rally Taormina-Messina at the weekend.
However the Pole also proved his pace, running inside the top 10 and leading his R3C class on the opening day.
Behind the wheel of a DP Motorsports Renault Clio R3, Kubica was eighth overall after the short opening day and five-tenths of a second clear of local specialist Paul Wise in their category.
Nonetheless, Kubica insisted that he had enjoyed the outing - and that the physical challenge had been no great cause for concern. Yahoo! Eurosport
“I’m interested in all categories of motorsport and I particularly like rally,” said the Pole. “It’s a very demanding and spectacular category and I have been thinking about participating in a rally for quite a while so joining the Renault F1 Team has created the perfect opportunity to try this out.
“I will approach the event cautiously, without any particular objective. The roads in the south of France are as nice as they are challenging and I will try to enjoy it as much as I can behind the wheel of the Clio Renault Sport R3 Maxi of Team Chazel.”
Among those fans will be Bertrand Baguette, the Belgian F1 hopeful who is due to test for Renault at the start of next month after winning this year’s World Series by Renault, a title Kubica won in 2005. The Rallye du Var takes place on 27-29 November. Formula 1
