Rally: Team VIP Petfoods Equal Second Quickest At Targa West

BAM Media

Wenn have fired at the first day of Targa West proceedings, punching out the equal second quickest time during this afternoon’s Prologue.

Held at the Perth Motorplex, the two runs of the 3.47 kilometre prologue circuit saw the pair put down strong times, with their final run a full second quicker than their first to see them place equal second ahead of tomorrow’s leg one.

Jim Richards posted the fastest time of the day, while Tony Longhurst piloted Ray Vandersee’s self-designed Skelta G-Force to place alongside Quinn and Wenn on the timesheets.

“Keith and I are really happy with how the car performed today, and to be starting up the front of the pack for tomorrow’s first leg, ” said Quinn.

“Today was only the start, really it is only seven kilometres down so there is a long way to go yet until this is over but it was a good way to start the weekend that’s for sure.

“Jim was really on fire today, as was Tony Longhurst aboard the Skelta, but we will be putting our heads down over the next few days and be looking to stay up at this end of the field! ”

Following on from today’s Prologue, tomorrow’s first leg and nine stages of competition will be held as the ‘Peter Brock Leg One’ in tribute to the motorsport great who tragically lost his life during last year’s first leg of proceedings.

Kicking off from Forrest Place tomorrow, the three leg rally will wind through 33 special stages with the field of 78 cars covering a total of 1019.30 kilometres including 225.09 competitive kilometres over the three legs.

The field for the 2007 QUIT Targa West is made up of four categories – two touring and two competitive – with the Modern Competition category the largest with 42 entries including the Team VIP Petfoods entry and other notables such as Tony Longhurst with Jahmeil Taylor aboard Ray Vandersee’s self-designed Skelta Sports Car.
