Wanted: Australia’s Most Promising Young Rally, Off Road And Female Drivers

Oct 04, 2007

CAMS is giving Australia’s most promising young drivers the opportunity of a life time to attend the Australian Institute of Sport as part of the CAMS Driver Development Program in 2008.

In addition to the already successful Women’s and Rally Programs, for the first time Off Road drivers will also be able to nominate for a place in the newly established Off Road Driver Development Program.

“The decision to include an off road element into the broader CAMS Driver Development Program will be a huge shot in the arm for off road and it being recognised on the bigger stage, “ said Australian Off Road Commission Chairman, John Paterson.

Launched in 2004 following a successful pilot year in 2003, the programs are designed to facilitate the development of Australia’s most promising young rally, off road and female motor sport competitors.

The self-nomination approach has again been chosen to encourage Australia’s young driving talent to be proactive in the pursuit of their motor sport careers.

Past program participants include Formula 3 driver Leanne Tander, as well as current Australian Rally Championship competitors Molly Taylor, Eli Evans and Brendan Reeves.

Each driver wishing to nominate for the 2008 programs must meet specific assessment criteria including age, past driver performance and demonstration of an interest in pursuing an international career.

The successful 2008 squad members will be announced in mid-November, which will be followed by training camps at the Australian Institute of Sport in February and June 2008. The camps will focus on elements of nutrition, physiology, psychology, strength and conditioning and media training.
