The Euro NCAP crash test results, released this week, awarded five stars to the European-made Mondeo, which will be available in Ford’s Australian showrooms later this month.
Euro NCAP acknowledged the effectiveness of the new Mondeo’s horizontally retracting steering column and knee airbag.
It is not known if these will be part of the Australian package.
The European model also features ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and electronic stability control including electronic brake assist.
Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control with audio and visual collision warning system, an active suspension system with continuously controlled damping, tyre pressure monitoring and hill launch assist.
The Mondeo also received four stars for child protection and two stars for pedestrian protection.
