Replacing the slow-selling but worthy Stilo model, Fiat’s Bravo arrives this month in New Zealand with the right name, not the rather meaningless Ritmo monicker that will be used in Australia.
On the other side of the Tasman, Fiat has been forced by Mazda, which has a version of its ute with the Bravo name and has the local rights to it, to use the name Ritmo for the new Fiat five-door hatch line-up. However, in New Zealand the new Fiat will carry its global nameplate.
“With Fiat being out of the Australian market for so long, the name of the new car was fairly academic for them,” says Lawrie Malatios, general manager for Fiat in New Zealand.
