Of course, you could imagine his delight when I brought home a Subaru Forester XT. I could almost hear him say, “Finally, a station wagon!”
Technically, it’s a crossover (an SUV body over a car’s chassis), but its low profile and compact dimensions boldly defy the SUV stereotype. We walked around the car, opening doors and panels, examining it with excitement.
I began explaining to him how SUV’s these days have begun to defy niches and boundaries, creeping into territories formerly occupied by vehicles designed for other purposes.
I mentioned it was powered by a turbo charged boxer engine and had all-wheel drive, much like the rally car. He instantly noted the generous rear space. I pointed out the very masculine hood scoop. He was still at the rear, toying with the cargo flap.
I then pointed out the unusually large sunroof. He was preoccupied with the car’s many cup holders and attractive netting on the door panel. In a last ditch effort to catch his attention, I pointed out steering wheel mounted stereo controls. He was thumbing through the brochure and was amazed with the water repellent seats.
