Arin McIntosh traded her helmet for a tiara Wednesday night.
An accomplished sprint car racer, the 18-year-old McIntosh can now add beauty queen to her resumé after she was chosen to represent Mitchell as the 2007 Persimmon Festival Queen.
“I am very excited, and very surprised,” McIntosh said seconds after walking off the Main Street stage. “This is very different. I am not used to wearing a fancy dress.”
And that’s exactly what McIntosh told the judges during the preliminary portion of the contest earlier Wednesday.
“In her speech she told the judges that the guys at the track weren’t going to recognize her because they’re used to seeing her with dirt on her face and a wrench in her hand,” said Alda McIntosh, Arin’s mother. “I am very proud of her, not just for this but for all she does. This has just been amazing.”
