Michael Alger admits that the shiny new Mazda RX-8 sports car is a big improvement over his older model Saab sedan.

And he says you can’t beat the price: the Electric Boat electronics specialist won the roadster as part of a nationwide Mazda “March Madness” basketball contest.

Alger, who arrived at the New London Lincoln Mercury Mazda dealership Monday afternoon to pick up his car, said he doesn’t usually participate in NCAA basketball competitions. But he decided on a whim to compete in the 2007 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament “Pick ‘em” contest in March.
