A tremendous field of 28 cars is pre-entered already for Saturday s “Allstate Lightning 100” presented by Toyota USAC National Midget race at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas. It s the second appearance for the series at the track which hosted last October s USAC 40-lap debut, won by Dave Steele.
Steele, of Tampa, Fla., is among the strong field which will attack the 3/8-mile paved oval located between Austin and San Antonio. He ll challenge Josh Wise s 1-lap track qualifying record of 13.981 seconds.
Steele and his teammate, two-time series champion Dave Darland, will pilot Toyota-powered cars entered by Nine Racing of Laguna Beach, Calif. That team has won 10 of the last 14 USAC National Midget Car Owner Championships.
