Aaron Pierce Has Been Issued A Special Invitation to Compete in The “NASCAR Night II” Racing Program
currently leading the USAC Silver Crown Championship Series presented by K & N Engineering, has been issued a special invitation to compete in the “NASCAR Night II” racing program this Thursday at the Macon (Ill. ) Speedway.
Pierce will compete in a modified on the 1/5-mile dirt oval against some of NASCAR’s finest, including Ken Schrader, Jason Leffler, J.J. Yeley, Kenny & Mike Wallace, Bobby Labonte, Kyle Busch, David Reutimann, Ray Evernham and Steven Leicht.
“This is a great opportunity for me, ” said Pierce, who won USAC’s May 10 “Silver Crown Showdown at Darlington” on the 1.366-mile Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. “I’ve never run a modified on dirt, but I drove one for Tom Bigelow at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. in 1997. We were running good but something broke and we didn’t finish. ”
Pierce has competed in a pair of dirt-track USAC races this season and posted a fast lap during practice for the May 25 “Hoosier Hundred” before rains forced cancellation of that event. In February he finished seventh in the “Copper on Dirt” Silver Crown race at the 1/2-mile dirt Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz.
The call to compete came from Kenny Wallace Inc. and Aaron says he’s looking forward to the race, which will be aired by the Speed Channel in a two-hour special July 22. “I’ve never run Macon, ” he added. “Actually I’ve never seen Macon yet! ”
