NASCAR Truck Series Race at Homestead - Q & A With Race Runner-Up Matt Crafton |
Alain Bergeron and his team were in the Niagara Falls ON region this weekend for two races in two evenings. Friday June 22, ESS drivers were at Ohsweken Speedway. With the handicap system in place, Bergeron had to deal with inversed positions and he was tenth on the A-Main starting grid. Saint-Pie QC driver made his way, and at a certain point he was in 6th place. However, lap cars combined with a track that was becoming very slick for the car setup, Bergeron lost two positions to finally finish in eight place.
Bergeron had qualified for the A-Main winning his heat race while he was second on the starting grid. Very good performance also in the DASH race with a second place finish. The DASH was one of the great moments of the evening as Alain Bergeron and Chuck Hebing fought hard in a duel for the second place in that four laps DASH race. Neither one of the two drivers wanted to give up and both exchanged the position many times. The Quebec driver won the duel.
The following night, Saturday June 23, the ESS series was at Thorold ON at Merrittville Speedway and Alain Bergeron wanted, at any price, to have a great performance. fourth on the starting grid in the A-Main, Bergeron quickly made his way to the second place and found himself in the back of the leader. Trying several groves and at the bottom of the track, the leader was able to keep up and resist to Bergeron’s attacks. So it’s in second place that the Saint-Pie QC driver crossed the checkered.
Earlier, Bergeron had qualified for the A-Main finishing second in his heat. He had qualified also for the DASH race. The Quebec driver had kept his initial position and finished second..
Merrittville Speedway Kid’s Club – During the evening program at Merrittville Speedway, Pete and Nancy Bicknell, owners of the track, had invited Alain Bergeron to participate at a 3 laps bicycle race on the Kart track against the 2006 local champion. That race was organized for the track Kid’s Club. The bicycles had the colors and numbers of the driver’s cars and the young fan was winning the bicycle. Bergeron won the race and the young fan that was matched with him was more than happy. The team also gave an autographed team shirt.
Recall In 2007, Alain Bergeron is in his 8th season with the very competitive series, the Empire Super Sprints ( ESS).
In 2006, the Saint-Pie native was crowned the 2006 ESS tour champion after a very good 2005 year as he finished in fifth place in the point standing and he had been champion of the ‘Gater Racing News Lap Leader Award’
Bergeron was the first Canadian to win a Sprint Car race with
the ESS in 2000. Sprint Cars are one of the most popular type of racing in the United Sates and at the end of the 2001 season, in his second year driving a Sprint Car, he had the most wins of any driver in the series with 3.
Racing with the ESS since only 6 years, Alain Bergeron is already in 18th position in the all-time winners list of the series. Throughout this season, we will inform you of his results and
various news from Team Bergeron, while Alain will be on the road competing to the best of his abilities. Alain Bergeron’s hometown is Saint-Pie-de-Bagot and he is a former champion in Mini-Sprint and ATV, both on dirt and ice surfaces.
