The wingless racers of the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region will be going to “The Big House” this weekend with the series first stop of the season at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande, AZ.
And while the ASCS Canyon Region is just four races old, red-hot Surprise, AZ, racer Jeremy Sherman is already closing in on an all-time American Sprint Car Series record.
Sherman has proven unbeatable through the series opening four events of the season, scoring a pair of wins atop Manzanita Speedway’s 1/3-mile oval along with single wins on Manzanita’s ½-mile and Tucson’s United Sports Arizona Race Park.
Sherman is just wins shy of tying the ASCS mark for consecutive feature wins. The record is currently held by South Dakota racer Randi Miller, who reeled off six consecutive wins during his 2003 ASCS Rocky Mountain Region championship season.
Sherman has had to keep his elbows up to score four wins thus far, with a pair of victory drives coming from deep in the pack.
In the process, the two-time and reigning Arizona State sprint car champion has jumped out to 42-point lead over Josh Pelkey. Mike Leslie is currently ranked third, with Bernie Smith and Seainn Hendricsen deadlocked in a tie for fourth.
Sixteen-year-old Michael Colegrove is currently sixth, with former state champ Bob Ream, Jr., and Mike Martin tied for seventh. Rookie shoe Jeremy Reagles is ninth, with J. T. Imperial cracking the top ten following this past weekend’s Tucson event.
