ASCS Gulf South Double This Weekend!

After a soggy Louisiana Saturday, the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region will try once again to fire off its sixth season of racing action with a Southeast Texas double this weekend.

Friday night, the ASCS Gulf South Region will open the season at Motorama Speedway in Beaumont, TX, before moving on to Baytown s Houston Raceway Park on Saturday night. It marks the first of five Beaumont to Baytown ASCS Gulf South weekends for the 2007 season.

Both tracks have proven unpredictable in recent years, with 2005 series champion Ray Allen Kulhanek the only driver to score multiple ASCS Gulf South wins at either track.

Seven different drivers have visited ASCS Gulf South victory lane in eight events at the high-banked, ¼-mile Motorama Speedway gumbo clay oval since 2004. Kulhanek posted back-to-back wins in 2005. Last year, Gary Watson scored his first career ASCS win in June at Motorama, with Jason Johnson and Kevin Ramey also victorious in Beaumont.
