Thousands of all-new bleacher seats, high-quality fences, and plenty of other improvements have been made and will be debuted for the Canadian fans this Friday when the ASCS Patriots invade “The Big O”.
Ohsweken Speedway, home to the Arrow Express Canadian Sprint Car Nationals and Six Nations Showdown, will play host to a stand-alone ASCS Patriot event for the fourth consecutive year this Friday, July 6.
The Southern Ontario oval is regarded by many drivers as their favorite track on tour for its ability to produce high speeds, combined with a mix of slick-track racing and cushion hugging racing on the edge of the 3/8-mile.
Built just over 10 years ago, ASCS Patriot Competitor Glenn Styres built a track with increasing-banking on the ground in front of his Ohsweken, Onatrio residence, since it has been manicured to ensure quality sprint car racing.
A Patriot sponsor for the second year in a row now, Ohsweken hosted the largest car count of the season for the ASCS Patriots in 2006, and a similar presence is expected this Friday.
Bryan Howland beat Chuck Hebing back to the line last year in what is arguably the best ASCS Patriot finish ever. Howland has fared well at Ohsweken in the past and will return Friday to wheel his Palm Beach Grading Inc. No. 51. The 2005 Champion has missed the last five races while he has been working in Charlotte, NC. Before he headed South, Howland was only four points out of the Championship.
Currently only two points out of the Championship is Jared Zimbardi, who finished fourth in that event last year. Zimbardi will continue to track down Chuck Hebing, who is as good at Ohsweken as he is at any track.
In one start at Ohsweken already this year, Hebing scored a third place run. Ohsweken was the site of Hebing’s horrific flip of 2006 in the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals. He has never won a Patriot race there but has two other wins with the Southern Ontario Sprints.
The one driver most pumped to return to Ohsweken is Don Adamczyk, who scored a shocking fourth place finish in the 2006 Canadian Nationals from 22nd place. The “Williamsville Warrior” had never had a drop of success at Ohsweken but last year completely reversed his feelings towards “The Big O”.
The field on Friday is likely to feature as many Canadians as Americans with names such as Rob Pietz, Tim Zack, James Whittaker, Stan Zanchin, Glenn Styres, Keith Dempster, Jay Pietz and Rick and April Wilson thrilling the Canadian Fans.
While this will be the only ASCS Patriot event at Ohsweken this year, the ASCS Sprints on Dirt will be there in August, and the $7,000-to-win Arrow Express Canadian Sprint Car Nationals will be held September 14-15.
All drivers are eligible and invited to compete in this event. With an open-draw and no handicap penalties, this should bring in a host of cars that may not be seen any other time this year but this Friday.
