ASCS Rebel Region Ready For Weekend Double

Boasting five different winners through the initial five events of the season, the American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region is set for two nights of racing action this weekend in Georgia and Alabama.

On Friday night, the series takes to Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA. Then on Saturday night, the series moves on to River Valley Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL.

Friday’s card is co-sanctioned with the ASCS Southern Tour, although it will be a non-points race for the Southern Tour contenders.

And there are two prevailing questions entering the weekend double. Will Pierson, Florida’s T. J. Winegardner retain his current series point lead? And will there finally be a repeat winner as the series holds its sixth and seventh events of the season?

Although denied victory lane thus far, Winegardner holds a tenuous 18-point lead over Brian Thomas of Pendergrass, GA. And just another two points back and well within striking distance is Tyler Godwin of Lutz, FL. Matt Linder of Hoschton, GA, climbed to fourth in points over the past weekend, with Daytona Beach, Florida’s Matt Tiffany cracking the top five.

Marshall Skinner topped the series season opener on February 10, with subsequent winners including Wade Oliver, Michael Dupuy, Tiffany and Kenny Adams. Tiffany and Adams split victory honors in this past weekend’s double that pitted the Rebel Region against the ASCS Southern Tour.

Friday’s action at Sugar Creek Raceway goes green at 8:00 p. m., while Saturday’s event at River Valley Speedway fires off at 7:30 p. m.

The high-banked, 1/3-mile Sugar Creek Raceway clay oval is located in Blue Ridge, GA, 0.1 mile south of US 76 on SR 5, then 1.8 miles west on Scenic Drive, then 2.2 miles south on Sugar Creek Road.

The semi-banked, 1/3-mile River Valley Speedway clay oval is located in Arkadelphia, AL, off I-65 Exit 291, then 8.3 miles southwest on SR 91 (two miles southwest of Arkadelphia), then left for 0.7 miles on CR 4, then left for 1.6 miles on CR 6 (Albert Cates Road).

The ASCS Rebel Region sanctions Sprint Car racing throughout Georgia, Alabama and North Florida, with a dozen events at nine different tracks currently on the slate.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O’Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
