ASCS / Wesmar Challenge Leader Board

With the opening four feature events of a huge 2007 season in the books for the American Sprint Car Series, Gary Wright and Marshall Skinner have nabbed early leads in the ASCS / Wesmar Racing Engines Challenge points chases.

Three-time and defending O’Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National champion Wright of Hooks, TX, broke out of the gates quickly, posting a pair of wins and a third-place run in the series season-opening triple at Tampa’s East Bay Raceway Park on January 25-27.

With those three podium finishes, including the $10,000 triumph in the Ronald Laney Memorial that put the wraps on the Ninth Annual “King of the 360’s” Nationals, Wright has earned seven points towards the ASCS / Wesmar Racing Engines Challenge.

Other drivers earning points at East Bay included Terry McCarl, Wayne Johnson, Travis Rilat, Danny Smith and Jason Johnson.

Then, this past Saturday, Marshall Skinner jumped on top of both the ASCS Coastal and Rebel Region points with a win over Wayne Johnson and Terry Gray.

The top two drivers in ASCS / Wesmar Challenge points for the National Tour and each of the dozen winged Regions at the September 15 cutoff date will earn invitations to the October 13 ASCS / Wesmar Challenge at Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s Winter Nationals.

Drivers earn points towards the Wesmar Racing Engines Challenge by earning three points for a feature win, two points for a runner-up finish and one point for each third-place feature finish. A driver must compete in at least 60% of a respective Region’s event to represent that Region in the ASCS / Wesmar Racing Engines Challenge.
