KNOXVILLE, IOWA - The battle for the title of “Mr. Sprint Car” intensified with Billy Alley rocketing into contention to tie for the lead in the Cox Design Iowa Speedweek points with newly crowned Knoxville 360 Nationals champion Wayne Johnson. Both Alley and Johnson have earned 190 points after the first four nights of ten nights of sprint car racing between the Knoxville Raceway and the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. In last night’s Brodix 360 Tournament of Champions at Knoxville, won by Jason Johnson, Billy Alley and Wayne Johnson finished second and fourth, respectively.
The unofficial top ten in the Cox Design Iowa Speedweek points are as follows: 1., Billy Alley & Wayne Johnson (tied), 190 points; 3., Brian Brown, 175 points; 4., Brooke Tatnell, 144 points; 5., Tyler Walker, 140 points; 6., Jason Johnson, 139 points; 7., Travis Rilat, 136 points; 8., Don Droud, Jr., 127 points; 9., Zach Chappell, 123 points; 10., Jesse Ginannetto, 111 points.
The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication-sponsored point chase continues on Monday, August 4, with the Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge sprint car race at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002) of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ‘04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005) of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, and Wayne Johnson (2007) of Oklahoma.
