The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region will embark upon new territory this Saturday night by taking to the semi-banked, ¼-mile I-76 Speedway dirt oval in Fort Morgan, CO, for the first time in series history.
With a handful of events in the books, C.J. Johnson of Quinter, KS, leads the Rocky Mountain forces into Saturday’s event as he tries to chase down his first ASCS Rocky Mountain Region crown.
Johnson currently holds a 26-point lead over defending series champion Patrick Bourke of Edwards, CO, with 2004 series champion Keith Rauch of Thornton, CO, just 22 more points back in third.
Eighteen-year-old Chad Corken of Highlands Ranch, CO, enters Saturday’s event ranked fourth, with 2001 champion Nick Haygood rounding out the current top five.
Saturday night’s I-76 Speedway “Sprintacular” gets under way at 6:00 p. m.
I-76 Speedway is located in Fort Morgan, CO, off I-76 Exit 75B, then east on US 34 to KFTM Radio Tower (Road 16), then 0.5 mile north to S Road.
The ASCS Rocky Mountain Region 2007 slate consists of 17 nights of action at eleven different tracks throughout Colorado, western Kansas, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska and South Dakota.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O’Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
