The past two weekends have been rough on some of the young guns of the American Sprint Car Series, with a pair of drivers sidelined for at least two months after separate crashes.
Texan Channin Tankersley and California’s Darrin Bolton will both be sidelined for at least two months after suffering identical injuries: a compression fracture of the T3 vertebrae.
Tankersley, an ASCS Gulf South Region competitor from Highlands, TX, was injured on Saturday night, May 19, when he flipped while dicing among the top five 20 laps into the feature event at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX.
Then one week later, El Dorado Hills, CA, racer Bolton, who splits time between the ASCS Canyon Region and USAC Western States Midgets, flipped in the early stages of Saturday night’s (May 26) ASCS Canyon Region 50-lap Wayne Weiler Salute to Indy atop Manzanita Speedway’s 1/3-mile clay oval in Phoenix, AZ.
Both 16 year olds (Bolton celebrates his 17th birthday on June 1) were fitted with back braces after hospital visits and must wear the braces for six to eight weeks.
Recuperating at their respective homes, both drivers are expected to make full recoveries and will return to action after at least two months.
