Eleven different drivers currently lead the standings for 2007 USAC “Rookie of the Year” honors, although points are not the only criteria for determining the winners.
The awards, which will be announced prior to the year-end banquets involve points, performances, cooperation with officials and media, as well as general demeanor and attitude. The USAC Champions Night National Awards Dinner is January 19, 2008 at the Westin Hotel in Indianapolis, Ind. and the Western Awards Banquet is November 24, 2007 at the Embassy Suites in Arcadia, Calif.
Rookie of the Year Awards are determined by a panel of USAC Officials at season’s end and each will receive distinctive awards at USAC’s year-end celebrations.
The following data chronicles the achievements of only those drivers considered rookies in their respective series who have amassed the most points to date and is not necessarily a list of award recipients for the season.
Cameron Dodson of Greenfield, Ind. is seventh in the K & N Silver Crown Series with a half-dozen “top-10s” and most recently won the pole at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. of Olive Branch, Miss. is fifth in the Lucas Oil National Sprint Series with a win at Minersville, Pa., a second and a third. He is also third in the National Midget Series after wins at Haubstadt, Ind., Knoxville, Iowa, McCool Junction, Neb. and Kokomo, Ind.
Ryan Kaplan of Chico, Calif. leads the Lucas Oil Western Sprint Series after wins at Roseville and Tracy, Calif.
C. J. Sarna of Palm Desert, Calif. is fifth in the Western Midget standings and has five “top-10” finishes to his credit.
Scotty Weir of Marion, Ind. is fifth in the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint points and his wins at Tucson, Ariz. and Perris, Calif. made him the series’ first two-time winner this year.
Robby Josett of Aqua Dulce, Calif. ranks seventh in the California Dirt and 10th in the California Paved Ford Focus Series posting three dirt-track victories and 10 “top-10s” on the pavement.
Steven Intravaia of Saylorsburg, Pa. is atop the Northeast Focus rookie standings with wins at Waterford, Conn., Lowville and Chemung, N.Y.
Eric Fehrman of Greensburg, Ind. leads Midwest/Indiana Ford Focus hopefuls after feature wins at New Castle, Ind. (2) and Plymouth, Ind. and numerous other “top-10s. ”
Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. leads the Carolina Richard Petty Driving Experience Ford Focus points and has posted victories at Shenandoah, Va., Elkin and Rougemont, N.C.
James Robertson of Indianapolis, Ind. is atop the Regional Midget Series points after posting seven victories, four seconds and two thirds!
A number of drivers are set to challenge these leaders as the season finales unfold in the coming week.
