Tom Hessert ran well in both the USAC Sprints and USAC Midgets at Iowa Speedway on Saturday. “Iowa is a gorgeous race track, ” said Hessert. “It is a very racy facility and the United States Auto Club should be proud to include this track on the schedule. ”
Hessert, driving the MAACO Americas Body Shop No. 5 midget, qualified well with a 6th quick time (23.339 seconds on the 7/8th mile semi-banked asphalt oval) earning a 6th place starting spot in the 25-lap USAC National Championship Midget Series feature that was part of the “Casey’s General Stores USAC Tripleheader. ”
The Cherry Hill, NJ college student quickly moved up to challenge the leaders in the early laps of the feature race. Hessert had the MAACO Americas Body Shop midget in front of the field for the 5th and 6th laps.
