Jason Meyers is not a rookie by any means, but on Friday, May 4 when the World of Outlaws return to Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois, he will feel like one, as it will be his first time seeing the recently reconfigured 3/8-mile track, along with the rest of his fellow competitors.

Meyers has always enjoyed racing at Tri-City Speedway, and has had a good amount of success at the facility. He won in the World of Outlaws last visit to the track just outside of St. Louis in 2005, when it was a spacious half-mile. “I’m looking forward to seeing the changes they have made, ” said Meyers, driver of the Primerica Financial Maxim. “I always liked the track the way it was. Kevin Gundaker has been around racing a long time, and I am sure he has done a great job with the track. I’m looking forward to getting down there and seeing what it is all about, and hopefully some of that Granite City luck will be with us from the last time we were there. ”

Meyers has become very accustomed to visiting new tracks over the years and that is how he will approach this weekend’s event at Tri-City. The track has received rave reviews in its first two weeks of competition. The event on Friday, May 4 will mark the first time that sprint cars will take to the reconfigured surface, as they look to break the current track record of 14.244 seconds set last weekend by reigning UMP Late Model National Champion Randy Korte.

“You have to go out and look at the track first and foremost, ” explained Meyers of how he will approach the reconfigured surface. “It’s hard to even go out and ride the track on a scooter. When you sit in that race car and roll around there that is when you know what the track is like. Like any new track, you try to compare it to a place that you have been. You have to start with a good gear set-up and go from there. From what I hear it’s real wide and it’s real racy. I’m looking forward to it. ”

Beginning this weekend with the event at Tri-City followed by the series first visit to Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas since 1981, the World of Outlaws will begin a stretch of 13 races in four weeks. Meyers is ready for the schedule to pick up, and if it was up to him, he would race every single night of the week. “The first part of the season is always tough only racing on the weekends, ” commented Meyers. “Here in May, we will get going and I think everyone gets better and gets into a better rhythm when you start racing more. We’re looking forward to racing more, sitting around during the week is getting old. I know the crew is anxious to get going. ”

Over the last month, Meyers has been one of the most consistent drivers with the World of Outlaws. He earned his first A-Feature win of the season on April 13 at Eldora Speedway, in an event that can be seen on SPEED on Sunday, May 13 at 2 p. m. Eastern. During the month of April, he finished in the Top-Eight in every race, including four straight finishes of fourth or better. He has set fast time in qualifying three times this year, including in the last two consecutive events. In addition to this, he has won two dashes to earn the pole position twice in A-Feature events.
