Jimmy “Bubba” Broderick swept his competitors under the rug as he scored another victory at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway on Friday.
Due to a rule change, Broderick started in the sixth position, but within ten laps made it to the top spot. Broderick likes the rule change, which places top-finishing drivers at the rear of the field.
“It makes a better show for me and the fans when we start at the back and work our way up, ” Broderick said. “It’s more rewarding. ”
Under the old rules, starting position was determined by drawing numbers. Many drivers would draw similar numbers each time, which led to a predictable race.
17-year-old Broderick, a second generation driver, won Friday’s race by a narrow margin of victory. He has won four of the last six races this season in his No. 5 Northeast Carpet sponsored Mini Sprint. Broderick is currently first in points in the Central New York Mini Sprint Division. The next race on his calendar is planned for Friday at the Accord Speedway in Accord, N.Y.
Broderick is being helped in his career by training from Future Stars in Racing Academy. The Academy helps prepare young drivers for success outside the car in public speaking; sponsor presentations; working with the media and behavior on and off the track. Future Stars in Racing is the exclusive driver development partner with the ASA Late Model Series.
