In Lernerville Speedway’s 40-plus year history, only two drivers had accomplished what Ed Lynch Jr. did Friday night.
The Apollo driver won his 100th Sprint Car feature at Lernerville to join lofty company. Only Bob Wearing Sr. and Lynn Geisler had won at least 100 features in the same division. Lou Blaney combined for more than 100 in the Sprint Car and Modified divisions. Lynch has 101 career victories at Lernerville; the other came in a Modified.
“This is the one I wanted,” Lynch said after he scored his seventh Lernerville win of the season. “Really, it wasn’t until about 90 when we said that was a goal. When we got the most wins here in an open-wheel car, that was impressive to me. Building on that, it just seemed to happen. You aren’t trying to win every race, just the next one.”
Even though Lynch was pleased with reaching the 100-victory mark, that did not totally take away the sting from his finishes in this week’s World of Outlaws Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup event, where he finished eighth and 16th in the twin features.
“You have to keep going; you can’t just wait it out and hope things get better,” Lynch said. “You have to get lady luck back on your side. We made some adjustments to the car from then. We had a few things go wrong for us on Wednesday, but that was our fault, not the car’s fault. I name all my cars, and I named this one Angel. It is like an angel. It’s comfortable, and it just feels good.”
The celebration in Victory Lane was substantial, but it was short lived in the pits.
Lynch’s victory wasn’t the only thing going on last night. There were a couple other milestones reached for other drivers as well. In the Modifieds, Brian Swartzlander won the Pitkavish Memorial and broke a tie with Wearing Sr. in all-time Lernerville Modified victories. Swartzlander has 63 Modified victories. Blaney is first in the Modifieds with 69.
