Meyers Scores Second Win in a Row at Williams Grove Speedway

Winning one race at Williams Grove Speedway was special for Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing Team. Picking up another victory at the famed half mile track was that much sweeter as the Clovis, Calif. native dominated the night before the 49th Annual Morgan Hughes National Open. Meyers led all 25 circuits around the paper clip shaped half mile to score his sixth win of the season, including his second in a row at Williams Grove.

“We’ve been looking at the stat columns and the only one we were disappointed with was wins,” Meyers said of his 2011 season. “I think we could have won from any starting position but we had the dash draw go our way which put us up front and we never looked backed. Charlie Garrett, our engine builder, told me earlier today that he wouldn’t mind making it two in a row here and we did it. Shane Bowers recently lost his grandfather so we certainly want to dedicate this one to him and we know he was watching over us tonight. The entire DDNi/Media-Tile/GLR Investments/All-Star Performance team put a great car on the track and I can’t thank them enough.”

Meyers seemed to run away from the pack once the field took the green until he was chased down by rookie Logan Schuchart. The 18 year old high school student waged a fierce battle with the 2010 champion as he dived low in turn’s one and two on the 8th lap. Schuchart nearly had the lead covered until Meyers made a bold move and powered back to the top spot. Mechanical woes slowed the Schuchart’s #1S which opened the door for Greg Hodnett. Hodnett picked up a win at the Williams Grove Summer Nationals and settled for a second to kick off his National Open weekend.

“Our car was pretty good tonight,” said Hodnett.”The motor stumbled just a little bit on that late restart and we just couldn’t catch up. We’ll work on it for tomorrow night. That’s where the big money is so we want to have our car in top shape for that.”

The winningest driver in Williams Grove history, Fred Rahmer, charged past Kerry Madsen to grab third on the restart and crossed the checkered flag with the position intact.

“The car felt pretty good tonight but we need to work on it for tomorrow night’s race. That’s the big pay day” said Rahmer with a smile.

Recent winner Joey Saldana brought his #9 Red Bull Maxim home in fourth with Morgan Cup Challenge winner Jason Sides. Schuchart wound up finishing 19 th.

The Outlaws will go head to head with their heated rivals, the Pennsylvania Posse, once again as $50,000 dollars is on the line in the 49th Annual National Open on Saturday, October 1.
