Mike Balzano and E1 Racing opened up their Independence Day Holiday on Friday, June 29th and Saturday, June 30th at the World of Outlaws sanctioned ‘Firecracker 100’ at Don Martin’s Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA. The team then traveled to Midway Speedway for a UMP Summernationals event on Monday, July 2nd, then made their way to Eriez Speedway in Hammett, PA for a Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) event that paid $5,000 to the winner on Tuesday, July 3rd. Mike’s busy holiday week also led him to Skyline Speedway for a ‘Topless’ 40-lap special as well as Wayne County Speedway for a $4,000 to win holiday special.
Mike timed in 12th quickest out of the 60 cars entered at Lernerville Speedway. The solid qualifying run put Balzano in the second starting position in his heat race. However, Mike was unable to take advantage of his starting position and finished fourth, one spot out of a transfer spot for the main event. Balzano would then finish tenth in the B-Main sending him to the ‘Uncle Sam’s 30’ instead of the $30,000 to win ‘Firecracker 100’. Mike was able to work his way through the field to an impressive 6th place finish in the $3,000 to win, 30-lap event.
On Monday Mike entered the ‘Jim Dunn Memorial’ at Midway Speedway. Balzano was strong all night and finished the evening with a solid 13th place finish. The next night Mike was at Eriez Speedway for the ‘Lake Erie Independence Day 50’ sanctioned by the MACS. After setting second quick time, finishing third in both his heat and dash, Mike would end the night with a tenth place finish in the A-Main after an early spin while running fourth sent him to the back of the field.
After a disappointing run at Eriez, Mike and team headed to Skyline Speedway and Wayne County Speedway with hopes to turn things around. Balzano did that with strong finishes at both facilities. Mike finished fifth at Skyline followed by a third at Wayne County.
This upcoming Friday, July 13th, Balzano will be back on the MACS trail when they visit Bedford Speedway (promoted by Keifer Motorsports) for a 50-lap $5,000 to win event.
