Sebetto Claims Maiden 410 Sprint Car Victory in FAST Competition

At 2 pm this afternoon Attica Raceway Park wasn’t sure if they would be able to race after 2” of rain fell overnight flooding the facility and leaving turns 3 and 4 under water. Large industrial pumps were brought in to remove the lake that had formed and the track crew had the racing surface in perfect condition by the time hot laps rolled out. By 10 pm the only thing pumping was the fists of Bryan Sebetto in victory lane as he held off a hard charging Chad Kemenah to pick up his first victory in a 410 sprint car aboard the Burmeister Racing #16.

There were 27 cars in attendance for night #17 of the Kistler Racing Products FAST Championship Season. Point leader Craig Mintz came into the night 72 points ahead of Byron Reed. Reed narrowly made the transfer from his heat race as he edged out Duane Zablocki at theline. Zablocki went on to win the B-main while Reed started 15th in the A-main and made a charge toward the front, passing Mintz at one point, then slipping back to finish 10th. Mintz would finish the night in 7th place while adding a few more points to his lead.

Sebetto lined up on the front row next to pole sitter Brandon Martin for the A-main event. Sebetto jumped out to the lead using the high side with Martin and Brock Mayes right on his tail, but it wasn’t long before Chad Kemenah took over the third spot and began challenging Martin for 2nd place. The two battled lap after lap with Martin holding onto 2nd place until disaster struck on lap 13 when they got together in turn 4 sending Martin flipping into the catch fence and ending his night.

On the restart, Kemenah dove under Sebetto but couldn’t make the slide job stick as Sebetto rocketed around him on the high side and pulled away down the back stretch. Another caution on lap 17 gave the 4-time All Star champion another shot at the leader. When the green flag dropped, Kemenah made another attempt on the low side of turn one, but again Sebetto pulled ahead on the high side and drove away. One final attempt was made after a lap 20 caution with the same results.

“I didn’t want to see any of those yellows and reds except for the first one that gave me a clear track. I tried doing the same thing every time on the restart. I pulled off a tear-off every time, I had the fuel lever turned to the exact same space, I pulled my visor down at the same time…I’m very superstitious,” said Sebetto. “I didn’t think I was going to hold off Chad on that last restart. He came sliding up on me, but he gave me enough room to just get around there…it feels good to beat someone like Chad Kemenah.”

The final 10 laps were intense as Kemenah was chomping at the rear bumper of Sebetto while Chris Andrews made his way into 3rd place and began to challenge Kemenah for the runner up spot. With all the action up front, Phil Gressman quietly snuck past 12 cars to finish 5th and earn the Zemco Headers Hard Charger award for the night. Gressman also picked up the GME/Nields Steering Cool Move of the Night as he “threaded the needle” coming out of turn 4 during the B-main, splitting two cars as he rocketed off the high side and advanced two positions.

Sebetto held off Kemenah on the final lap to take the win and move into 6th place in the chase for the Kistler Cup. Chris Andrews would follow in third with Mayes and Gressman rounding out the Top 5.

“We’ve had the worst season ever…since I was 12 years old racing go-karts I’ve never had as bad of year as I’ve had this year. It seemed we could get nothing to fall our way, but everything fell into place tonight. These guys…Mikey, Rollie and Tommy, I can’t thank these guys and mom and pop Burmeister enough. Every single night Mikey works his butt off on this race car…this is his life,” said Sebetto beside his Steve Mapus Productive Tools, R&R Auto Wrecking, Schiets Motorsports, Kistler Racing Products backed #16.

“I have to thank Kistler Engines…we hurt a motor here last week and they rushed and got it done for us. Also, All-Pro Cylinder Heads…I have them on my motor tonight,” added Sebetto Rookie of the year contenders Kevin Lee and Cap Henry had good Top 10 runs going before Henry ended up on his side in turn 4 which landed him in 18th place for the night.

Lee went on to finish 9th and Duane Zablocki would come home 14th. All three 410 rookie drivers have been impressive this season with Cap Henry leading the charge for the FAST Rookie of the Year honors.
