Fresh from his NASCAR Nextel Cup win Saturday at Daytona, Tony Stewart captured the inaugural Lou Blaney Memorial Classic Tuesday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio.
Cale Conley of Vienna, W.Va., led for the first 11 laps, after which Stewart took control and held on to win the 30-lap event for the 410 Sprint Cars. It was Stewart’s first win in the World of Outlaws-style sprint car, which has a more powerful engine than what the former multitime USAC Champion was accustomed to before making his move to NASCAR.
Stewart is arguably one of the best drivers to have made the transition from USAC competition to NASCAR.
“Lou was a great friend and a fine competitor. I raced against him many times and he always ran you clean,” Johnson said. “It is my honor to capture the Modified portion of the event being held in tribute to such a fine individual.”
