KNOXVILLE, IOWA - Defending “Mr. Sprint Car”, Wayne Johnson, has increased his lead in the Cox Design Iowa Speedweek point standings following his win on Wednesday night in the opening round of the Super Clean Knoxville Nationals, presented by Lucas Oil. Johnson now leads runner-up Billy Alley by a whopping 89 points, as the title hunt heads into the second preliminary program tonight at the Knoxville Raceway.
The unofficial top ten in the Cox Design Iowa Speedweek points are as follows: 1., Wayne Johnson, 279 points; 2., Billy Alley, 190 points; 3., Tyler Walker, 189 points; 4., Bronson Maeshon, 184 points; 5. Jason Johnson & Travis Rilat, 176 points (tie); 7., Brian Brown, 175 points; 8., Jesse Hockett, 174 points; 9., Jason Solwold, 173 points; 10., Jonathan Allard & Don Droud, Jr., 170 points (tie).
The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speedweek includes ten straight nights of sprint car racing between Knoxville Raceway and the Southern Iowa Speedway. The top three places pay $2,500, $1,000, and $500, respectively. Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002) of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ‘04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005) of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, and Wayne Johnson (2007) of Oklahoma.
