WoO: Schatz Extends Lead With 5th PLace Finish at Williams Grove Speedway

Donny Schatz used a fifth-place finish at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night to extend his lead in the World of Outlaws championship standings to 39 markers over 20-time series champion Steve Kinser. Schatz lined up 23rd in the event and steadily worked his way to the front by the end of the 30 laps. The three time and defending series champion is now tied with Kinser for the series lead with 10 Top-Five finishes enter a busy three race stretch this coming weekend to wrap up the first East Coast swing of the season.

Despite having mechanical problem for the second consecutive event when he lost an engine on Friday night, Kinser is still second in points and leads the series with 15 Top-10 finishes in the 18 events that have been contested. He and Schatz have traded the top spot in the standings a couple of times this season, as Kinser looks for his record 21st title.

Joey Saldana remains third in points, 66 markers out of the lead, with Jason Meyers fourth and Craig Dollansky rounding out the Top-Five.

Jason Sides is currently sixth in the standings, with 2001 World of Outlaws champion Danny Lasoski seventh, Jac Haudenschild eighth, Kraig Kinser ninth and Sammy Swindell 10th.

The World of Outlaws return to action this coming weekend with three events to help celebrate Memorial Day, beginning on Friday at The Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with the Outlaws Showdown. The series then travels to Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday for the Paul Sawyer Memorial, followed by a return to Canadaigua Speedway in New York on Memorial Day.
