Donny Schatz, driver of the No. 15 Armor All/Chevy/ParkerStore/J&J for TSR:
“Calling it a tough weekend would be a major understatement. It’s been about four years since we had a weekend like this. I guess we were due. The key is finding a way to bounce back.”
“Friday night, we got started on the wrong foot when we missed the top-16 in qualifying. The track was sticky and pretty much one-lane all the way around. Our only chance was to get from sixth to second in our heat and the surface simply wouldn’t allow it. On Saturday, things started a little better in qualifying, but just a bit too good. We were eighth, one spot off the front row of a heat. We got to third in the heat, but second was what we needed. That put us in the middle of the pack to start the feature. When you start back there, anything can happen. Anything did and we were involved in a crash eight laps in. Maybe that was a sign of things to come because we only made it eight more laps when the engine shut off. The Armor All guys tried to find the problem, but we couldn’t get the car to restart.”
“Hopefully, we got all the gremlins behind us this weekend and we get back to being in contention for wins next weekend.”
Kraig Kinser, driver of the No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/Chevy/J.D. Byrider/Maxim for TSR:
“We didn’t have the results we wanted this weekend, that’s for sure. With a couple of short-track races, we were hoping to have similar success as our third-place run at Chico earlier in the year.”
“Qualifying is where it starts, and on Friday night, we missed the heat inversion (top-16), so we were behind from there. In the heat race, there was some contact and the car ended up on its side, which forced us to run the B-Main. In the feature, the track was still really fast and didn’t allow for much passing, so I guess moving up four spots was something positive. The Bass Pro Shops team had the car really nice on Saturday night as we won the fourth heat race. I drew the front row for the Dash race, and finished third so we were sitting pretty good for the 40-lap feature. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a good start and, by the time I finished the first lap, I was in sixth place. We raced inside the top-10 for most of the race and finished 11th.”
“With this schedule, the next race isn’t that far off, so we’ll get a chance to get back on the track and hopefully get a little better.”
