Donny Schatz, driver of the No. 15 Armor All/Chevy/ParkerStore/J&J for TSR:
“Winning at Eldora is always special, but tonight I really felt like we had a great car under us. I can’t wait to get back here for the Kings Royal (in July). The Armor All crew (Rick Warner, Shane Bowers and Eric Prutzman) did a heck of a job tonight. Actually, both nights, they gave me a great car. On Friday, we qualified fastest and were really good in the heat race before the rain came in.”
“We’re always trying to get better and, like I said, we had a racecar that I could drive anywhere I needed to. To be able to work our way to the front and be in a position to win is all you can ask for. It was unfortunate Steve (Kinser) had a problem, but that’s racing. He got the point lead from us when we had a problem two weeks ago and now we’re back on top, right where we want to be.”
“This is a big deal for us. Tony (Stewart) owns this track and our team, so it’s like a double bonus for all of the people who are involved with us. From Armor All to Chevy to ParkerStore to Bass Pro Shops to J. D. Byrider, and on and on – without all of them we couldn’t be racing at a first-class track like this or be part of an unbelievable team.”
“Now we’re heading east for three races this week, and with the way this car has been rolling the past few weeks, I can’t wait to get back on the track.”
Kraig Kinser, driver of the No. 20 Bass Pro Shops/Chevy/J. D. Byrider/Maxim for TSR:
“Luck certainly wasn’t on our side this weekend, that’s for sure. I guess the only luck we had was bad luck. It didn’t start out that way and, honestly, that’s kind of how our nights at the track have been this year – good early, but not so good late. We were hoping to change that by having a couple of complete nights at Eldora.”
“On Friday night, we qualified right where we wanted to be and got to second in our heat race to qualify for the dash. Our luck went from really good to really bad in the matter of about 20 minutes. After drawing the pole position for the dash, we didn’t have the chance to race from there because it started to rain.”
“We came into Saturday’s show feeling pretty good about our chances. Once again, it came down to the slimmest of margins and, unfortunately, we missed the heat inversion by. 014 of a second in qualifying. That put us 13th overall and we ended up starting the feature in that spot. We were going okay until about halfway, when something broke and we weren’t able to finish the race.”
“The Bass Pro Shops team (Mike Cool, Steve Swenson and Bob Curtis) will keep after it and I know I’m going to keep digging to get us back where we want to be. Hopefully, we’ll get that complete night this week.”
