Always one of the most exciting tracks on the World of Outlaws schedule, the high banks of Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana will play host to the best sprint car drivers in the world on Saturday, April 21. The event will be the first of two races in the state of Indiana this season for the series, both coming on ¼-mile tracks.
The World of Outlaws have competed on a ¼-mile once thus far in 2007, with Donny Schatz picking up the win in that event, at Houston Raceway Park. Eight different drivers have visited victory lane in the first 13 events of the season, with a total of 12 drivers leading laps. Through the first two months of the season, 10 drivers have picked up dash wins to earn pole positions in A-Feature events, with the same number of drivers having set fast time in qualifying. In addition, 13 drivers have won B-Main in just as many events.
The quarter-mile at Tri-State Speedway has played host to 24 World of Outlaws AFeature events dating back to the 1979 season, with 13 different drivers having picked up victories.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws Champion leads the win list with six triumphs at the track in his home state. The native of Bloomington, Indiana won in his last visit to Tri-State Speedway in 2005. He is solidly in the Top-10 in championship points this season on the strength of an early season win in Arizona, the 534th of his career.
Craig Dollansky won at Tri-State for the first time in his career last season. The native of Elk River, Minnesota and former World of Outlaws Gumout Series Champion is one of only two drivers who have made each of the first dozen features of the season by way of their heat race, not having to compete in the B-Main or rely on a provisional. He enters the weekend fifth in points.
Joey Saldana begins this weekend’s events atop the World of Outlaws standings by four points over Donny Schatz. He picked up three consecutive wins in late March along to with a victory in February to give him a series-best four wins in the first 13 races of the 2007 campaign. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana, who drivers for NASCAR star Kasey Kahne seeks his first win at the track in the Hoosier State.
Schatz, the reigning World of Outlaws Champion is second in the standings this season, on the strength of three early season wins, and 12 Top-10 finishes in the first 13 races. The native of Fargo, North Dakota finished fourth in 2004 at Tri-State as he battled for the lead all race long in a thrilling duel with Tim Kaeding and Steve Kinser. The 1997 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has finished in the Top-10 in six of the seven races he has competed in at Tri-State Speedway.
Daryn Pittman has finished in the Top-10 in two of the last three World of Outlaws events at Tri-State Speedway. He won early this season in Florida and is solidly in the Top-Five in points, as he chases his first series crown. The native of Owasso, Oklahoma has 20 career World of Outlaws A-Feature wins and is a former World of Outlaws Gumout Series Champion.
Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws Champion is in search of his first win on the high banks of Tri-State Speedway. The native of Dover, Missouri currently has 75 career A-Feature wins. He won his first race of the season on April 6 in Kentucky and is in the Top-Five in championship points.
Terry McCarl heads to Tri-State Speedway, where he has won in the past, sixth in World of Outlaws championship points. The veteran finished second last season at the track. He is a multi-time track champion at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, as well as Huset’s Speedway in South Dakota.
