When polling World of Outlaws drivers to find out what their favorite tracks to race on are, one facility is mentioned more times than not, and that is the high-banked ultra-racy 1/3-mile I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri. The track which is co-owned by Ray Marler and NASCAR star Ken Schrader will play host to its 28th World of Outlaws event on Saturday April 7. Since the first series visit in 1987, there have been 17 different drivers earn an A-Feature victory at the track.
In the last 12 series races at the facility, located just outside of St. Louis, there have been 12 different winners.
Last season reigning series champion Donny Schatz won the event in April leading all 40 laps. Brooke Tatnell led 33 laps to take the checkered flag in July, after a thrilling battle with Schatz and Daryn Pittman. Schatz enters the event this Saturday second in points, only two markers out of the lead, on the strength of three A-Feature wins to start the season, along with 10 Top-10 finishes. Tatnell is seventh in points, in his first season driving for Larry Woodward Racing.
Nine drivers that will be in attendance for the event have won at I-55 Raceway. On top of this list, is Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws Champion who has visited the winners circle at the 1/3-mile four times, with the most recent coming during the 2003 season. The native of Bloomington, Indiana also won in 1987, the first year the series visited the track. Kinser has one win so far this season, and is eighth in points.
