It had been awhile for Ty Hanten. His four-year stretch without a feature win finally ended on Sunday, but it seemed much longer than that.
“That’s the first one in a long time, and it was a big relief for me to get it,” Hanten said. “And it was amazing that we won, considering the issues we were having.”
Hanten took the checkered flag in the feature of the Super Stocks special at Buffalo River Race Park on Sunday in Glyndon, Minn.
Hanten said that the race car’s engine was still in pieces in his garage at 4 p.m. Sunday. Cars at BRRP have to be checked in at 5:30 p.m. for the draw for heats.
“I guess you have to say that we had a little luck,” Hanten said.
Hanten’s last feature win came in Rock Rapids, Iowa, in 2005 – and that was while racing a sprint car.
He’s been racing in the Super Stocks since 2004, and said there’s a reason why trips to victory lane are tough to accomplish. With the area’s experienced drivers in the class, flawless driving is a must if you want to be the first to the checkered flag.
“It’s a tough class with guys like Todd (Carter) and Corky (Thomas),” Hanten said. “In West Fargo, they know every inch of the track and how to drive.”
Now that his streak of tough luck is over, Hanten is hoping his win on Sunday leads to a bunch of victories as the year winds down.
“It seemed like it was longer than forever,” Hanten said. “When they took that picture (after the win), you could see by my expression that it had been awhile.”
“I still want to win a couple at West Fargo this year. I hope I don’t have to wait that long again.”
