In just their second season racing in the NAPA Auto Parts Pony Stocks division at Magic Valley Speedway, Jason and Brent Abbott have made vast improvements over their first campaign.
Brent, 22, has two wins to his credit in 2008 and is currently second in the point standings. Jason, 31, while still on the hunt for his first main-event victory, occupies the sixth position in the ranks at this time.
“Last year I did not do as well as I wanted to,” Brent said. “I’m driving the same now as I did, but we both have new tires and a new motor in the car. That really makes a big difference.”
Said Brent: “If he is out in front of me, I will pay a lot attention to where he is because I don’t want to hit him,” Brent said. “Last year I took him out and I don’t want to do that again. I like to win. but I really hope he does sometime, too. Mostly I worry about (points leader) Josh Pitz.”
Asked if they kept any racing secrets from each other, Brent said, “Not at all. We work together. We’re always feeding off each other.”
Jason response was similar, but with a slight twist. “We work together,” he said, before hesitating as a flash of doubt entered the mind of the oldest of five boys. “Why, what did he say? He’d better not be keeping anything from me.”
