Roderick Fails Post-Race Inspection Giving Sawyer His Season's First Win

Shane Sawyer collected his first GAS victory of the year in the tech shed after the Georgia Asphalt Series race at Lanier. Casey Roderick, driver of the #19 Bill Elliott Racing Ford, failed post race technical inspection due to excessive brake ducting. Roderick was fast qualifier, and led every lap. Sawyer collected the $2500 first-place money.

13-year-old Chase Elliott finished second, Chris Whorton third, TJ Reaid fourth, and Paul Kelly fifth, collecting his third top five finish of the year.

“I really hate it for Casey,” said Sawyer. “We have lost some that way as well. This isn’t the way that I wanted to win tonight’s race, but a win is a win.”

Elliott was pleased with the evening’s running. “We started out the night with the car too tight. We were a little unfortunate though, because when our car finally hooked up and got to where we needed it to be I had to fight with traffic, and I began to start using up my equipment.” With his solid and consistent run, Elliott’s average finishes in GAS events rose to a 3.75.

Bubba Pollard made his first appearance of the season in GAS and at Lanier, qualifying and finishing sixth.

TJ Reaid qualified 10th in the twenty car field. “That was unusual for us to qualify so far back but we were able to battle back though the field during the race,” said Reaid. “The car started coming to me as the race went on. I had a pretty intense battle with Bubba Pollard toward the end of the race that was a lot of fun. We had a good points night with the 5th place finish and the car is still in one piece.”
