Event Previews for the Caterpillar Racing team and the 360 OTC Racing team for the upcoming NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at Texas Motor Speedway.

Texas Motor Speedway News and Notes

Texas ToyotaThe No. 22 team will leave the COT behind this weekend and take Chassis No. 83 to Texas Motor Speedway for the Samsung 500. This is the same Caterpillar Toyota the team used at California Speedway, where Dave Blaney qualified 14th and ran solidly in the top 10 before losing an engine halfway through the event.

Martinsville Recap

Because they stood outside the top 35 in points, Blaney and the team had to qualify on time to make it into the 500-lap event at Martinsville (Va. ) Speedway. Blaney started 22nd and drove to a 37th-place finish after blowing a tire and making contact with the wall early in the event.

Blaneys Career Stats

Blaney will make his 242nd career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start when the green flag waves Sunday afternoon. He made his first career Cup Series start in October 1992 at [Rockingham] North Carolina Speedway and finished 22nd after qualifying 24th for his first Cup Series start in Texas in 2000. Like this weekend, Blaney was aboard a Bill Davis Racing-owned machine.

Blaney has made nine starts on the 1.5-mile oval during his Cup Series career, starting as high as 12th (2005) and finishing as high as sixth (2001). He has scored three top-15 finishes in Cup Series competition at Texas Motor Speedway and has qualified in the top 15 twice.

Competitors driving Bill Davis Racing-owned cars have been racing at Texas Motor Speedway since 1997 and have made 17 starts. Those drivers have posted two top-10 finishes and have completed 5,156 of 5,683 possible laps (90.7 percent).

Points Position

Blaney and the No. 22 teams 37th-place finish at Martinsville dropped them two places in the owners point standings. The team now stands in 39th place, 58 points outside the top 35.

Texas Two-Step

Blaney will continue doing double duty this week as he competes in his No. 10 ABF Ride for Braun Racing in the NASCAR Busch Series. Blaney earned a third-place finish after qualifying 15th last week at Nashville (Tenn. ) Superspeedway. He now stands second in the Busch Series drivers point standings. .
