On August 4, 2007, French ‘Formula France’ and motocross champion Michel Disdier will be the first Frenchman in over 30 years to participate in NASCAR. A consummate test driver, Disdier has had his eye on racing heavy stock cars and ovals for some time. Ironically, he will be making his debut at the same time as NASCAR’s first ever event in Canada at the Gilles Villeneuve track in Montreal.

Racing with Richard Durivage’s Trident team in the Canadian Tire NASCAR Series, Disdier will finish out the season with the team. With seven races remaining in the Canadian Tire season, he is looking to gain maximum behind-the-wheel experience so that he can move on to his ultimate goal? racing in the American NASCAR Busch Series in 2008.

Following his May 29th ARCA test on the Michigan International Speedway oval, French media attention and fan support regarding Michel Disdier’s entry into NASCAR has been accelerating. While Formula racing enjoys a strong following in Europe and elsewhere in the world, NASCAR, already in Mexico and Canada, is rapidly moving to increase its venues in foreign countries.

Disdier enthusiastically looks toward the day when France will figure on the NASCAR map. In the meantime, his is focusing on meeting the challenge of the new driving style and bringing France to the attention of millions of NASCAR spectators.
