I headed out early Sunday morning to find a few of those potential race-ticket buyers who chose to chase deer this weekend instead of watching the Chase for the Nextel Cup. I couldn’t find any, though.
(Let this be a lesson to you aspiring journalists: Never attempt a story that sends you to the woods to find people wearing camouflage.)
I wanted to see if there was some way for them to enjoy the opening weekend of deer season and also attend the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The only idea I can come up with is to invite hunter-race fans to bring their shotguns to the track, then turn deer loose in the infield after the race and let ‘em fire away. Something, however, tells me that idea would get—I can’t believe I’m actually writing this—shot down.
