Emmy Rossum, best known for her role as Christine in the screen version of “Phantom of the Opera, ” will perform the national anthem at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway on Sunday, June 24.
Rossum, 20, has appeared in 20 different operas singing in five different languages alongside such notable figures as Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. She will perform the national anthem at a NASCAR race for the first time.
“This will be a very exciting day for me, ” Rossum said. “I have recently completed my first album and to be able to bring the same unique sound to the national anthem is something I’m extremely proud to do. This will also be my first time at a NASCAR race. I am really excited about getting to ride in those cars. ”
Rossum, a native of New York City, earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in “Phantom of the Opera. ” She also appeared in the film “The Day After Tomorrow” in 2004 and had a role alongside Clint Eastwood in “Mystic River” in 2003. It was her first major studio film.
Rossum has also has starred in both television movies and shows, including “Law and Order” (1990) and “The Practice” (1997). She began her career as a 7-year-old when she was chosen to join New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
She will be releasing an iPod Bundle in July, and there are plans for her to release a CD in October, titled “Inside Out. ”
