Who benefited the most from Ginn Racing’s demise? The legendary Wood Brothers No. 21 team, which inherited the spot the No. 13 car left behind, as well as Bill Davis Racing’s No. 22 entry, which entered Sunday with a chance to be the first Toyota team locked in by owner points since Bristol. To help understand what happened this week in owner points following the Ginn / DEI merger, let’s take a look at what has happened to each team involved. Mike Lovecchio, FrontStretch.com

With Ginn Motorsports and DEI merging earlier this week, Wood Brothers/JTG Racing went from 36th to 35th in the owners’ points standings. As a result, the Stuart-based race team was guaranteed a spot in tomorrow’s Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.
“This is the second most important week of the year, so it happened at a good time,” co-owner Len Wood said yesterday. “Obviously, we have to perform better than we have in the past several months, and hopefully stay in the top 35.”
Wood said the DEI-Ginn merger changed the team’s preparation for this weekend.

Things have changed, and Max and I talked about the limited amount of space they had. If they were going to grow the company and have three or four teams under one roof, they needed a bigger facility. They were out looking around, seeing what was available, and Yates’ deal was one of them. I haven’t talked with Max since that day, but the deal that DEI put together with Ginn makes the most sense of anything that I’ve seen in racing in a long time. Darrell Waltrip, FoxSports.com

It seems the conclusion is that DEI, now with four teams capable of making every race and with expanded technological support, is much better off than it was. Perhaps it will prove that it will be a growing concern rather than a shrinking one when Dale Earnhardt Jr. departs at the end of the season.
Was it so long ago that we were suggesting that DEI would be, essentially, a non-entity after Earnhardt Jr.’s departure?

The merger between Dale Earnhardt Inc., and Ginn Racing affects a ton of people, from crew members to drivers to sponsors. You hope that everyone will end up with a program that’s as good or better than they have now.
DEI president of global operations Max Siegel will be on SPEED’s Trackside (Friday at 6 p.m. ET), and we will try to get a better understanding of the deal from him. When Siegel came on board, he said that whether Dale Earnhardt Jr. stayed or left, DEI’s goal was to become a powerhouse operation. To accomplish that goal, they felt they needed to go to four teams. Booby Ginn, a real estate developer bought MB2 Motorsports from Nelson Bowers in 2005 with a mission to make it one of the best teams in NASCAR. He nearly succeeded. Steady improvement from the time Ginn took over seemed to point to great things for the team. Unfortunately, things went sour.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. says he is excited about the merger between Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Ginn Racing. Although he’ll be departing from DEI at season’s end, Earnhardt Jr. has long said he remains interested in the organization’s future.

The longtime team member was defiant, upset, and already looking toward the future just hours after Dale Earnhardt said he was leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI) at the end of the 2007 season.
“We’re all really, really ... mad that this happened,” the DEI official told me over my cell on May 10. “But Teresa [Earnhardt] isn’t going to take this sitting down. You never want to piss off a millionaire, and I’m betting that you’ll soon see bulldozers at DEI and concrete being poured as they expand the shop.”

Dale Earnhardt Inc., already one of the world’s premier racing organizations, has become even stronger through a merger with Ginn Racing.
Effective immediately, the team will feature the Chevrolets of Paul Menard, Martin Truex Jr., Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin and Aric Almirola. Martin and Almirola will combine to drive the No. 01 Army Chevrolet for the remainder of the 2007 season as well as the entire 2008 season.

Upstart team owner Bobby Ginn made it clear earlier this year that he planned on doing whatever he could to land free agent Dale Earnhardt Jr. for his Nextel Cup team.
When Junior put himself on the open market back in May, the dark horse Ginn put his team right in the mix.

There will be no immediate crew chief changes as a result of the Dale Earnhardt Inc.-Ginn Racing merger, but not all the crew chiefs will work out of the same shop.
