Five-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher, who has made a habit of pulling miracles out of his hat on the last day of the season, was at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend to see if NASCAR star Jeff Gordon could do the same.
“Some people go, ‘You’re lucky,’ and I say, ‘Yeah, I am.’ I don’t know how else to put it,” Schumacher said. “If (Gordon had won), I can tell you from experience it’s more gratifying this way.” Curt Cavin, IndyStar.com
This season, with two additional drivers added to the Chase, as well as a new twist - seeding the drivers for the start of the post-season by regular-season wins - teammates Johnson and Gordon overpowered the competition.
During the final 10 events, Gordon had an average finish of 5.1 - and lost the title by 77 points. That’s because the amazing Johnson had an average finish of 5.0
He closed out the Chase with four straight wins and a season-ending seventh-place run that sealed his second title in a row. CanadianPress
