Jeremy Mayfield and the 360 OTC Racing team headed to Bristol (Tenn. ) Motor Speedway with the simple goal making the event. With the brand new Car of Tomorrow making its NASCAR debut, the. 533-mile high-banked oval seemed like a good place to get the season off and running for the team. Mayfield and the crew landed solidly in the field for the event and raced to a 34th-place finish after blowing a right front tire and hitting the wall midway though Sunday’s event.
Mayfield was the 17th of 49 competitors to qualify Friday afternoon. After posting quick speeds in the pre-qualifying practice session, the crew was hopeful they were on the brink of a solid starting spot for the 500-lap event. Things went according to plan, and Mayfield’s lap of 15.509 seconds placed the No. 36 team in 23rd position on the starting grid and solidly in the race.
